Here am I.
Here am I all.
Hear
The hollow call,
The cry,
The sad sound
When angels fall and die
And are found again
By men
Who care little if at all.
Though tall and standing,
Sounding
Like they all sound
When found here:
Muffled, small.
The lie of ages
Defies gravity there
Floating around them
Not to let them drown
Or fall
From ground upward.
And here am I
And so here are you all,
Bound
By tar and lye,
Clipping a wing or two.
Black on hallow white
Flying nowhere
But down,
For fear of heights.
Searing skin
And feathers that fly
No more
But die instead
And yet dread
Treading the earth.
Tears swell and fall.
Once weeping eyes
Witness
Toes folding, burying
Into dirt
Claiming all
That once was deathless.
